My Dogs

I do not have children, I have dogs. They are my children. I don't have to send them to college and they don't talk back (usually). I have 2 dogs, a Bouvier des Flandres (looks like a black bear) and a curbside setter (mutt). Prior to getting this Bouvier, we had another one, Max, that we loved very much but he died at 8 years old of cancer. We were so heartbroken when he died that we couldn't wait to get another one. I found a breeder in MA that had just bred her dog and didn't know if she was pregnant or not, but agreed to sell me one of the puppies. I couldn't wait to get my new little ball of fluff. Right after she was born, I went to visit her and she was the cutest puppy ever. I couldn't take her home until she was about 9 weeks old and I counted the days. That was 10 years ago. She is just a love and the best friend anyone could ever have. After she was a year old we decided to get her a friend. My husband found a puppy on Petfinders that was born in a shelter and was supposed to be a Bouvier mix. He asked me what I thought and I said "Let's get her!" What I didn't realize was that she was in Georgia and we were in CT. But, we flew to Atlanta, rented a car and drove to the shelter which was in LaGrange, Ga. to get her. She is mostly white with a few black/gray spots. She was only 8 weeks old and she was too young to fly, so we drove her all the way home. It took us 2 days to drive back home. Poor little thing was sick with ear mites and a few other things, but she got better fast. She grew up to be a beautiful dog and the two dogs are best friends. I wouldn't trade my dogs for anything, they bring us great joy. |
